Former Tema East Member of Parliament, Nii Kwartei Titus Glover, has strongly criticized Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew following Ghana’s elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ghana’s World Cup journey came to an end after suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat to Colombia in the Round of 32. The only goal of the match was scored by Jhon Arias in the first half, ending the Black Stars’ hopes of progressing further in the tournament.
Jordan Ayew, who played in all four of Ghana’s matches at the World Cup, has faced criticism from some fans and football observers over his performances during the competition.
Speaking on Channel TV, Titus Glover questioned the veteran forward’s impact on the team and suggested that his role should now be reduced.
“Jordan Ayew has outlived his stay, and he can only play 20 to 25 minutes. He holds onto the ball too much, and he is so slow, but I know that is his style, and by doing that, you invite hard tackles on you,” he said.
“He is always on the floor, expecting the referees to protect him, but as a striker, you don’t hold onto the ball too much. With air balls and ground ball should be quick, but you only hold onto the ball when you don’t have anyone around you.”
Glover further argued that Jordan Ayew should have been used mainly as a substitute, giving younger players more playing time.
“So for me, Jordan Ayew was a disaster, and he should have played a maximum of 20 minutes and allowed the young players to feature,” Glover added.
Following Ghana’s exit from the tournament, head coach Carlos Queiroz also announced his resignation after taking charge of the Black Stars on a short-term contract signed in April, marking the beginning of another rebuilding phase for the national team.
