FC Nordsjaelland football director Alexander Riget believes Ghanaian midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi is ready to make the leap to one of Europe’s elite leagues, revealing the club could sanction a summer transfer following his remarkable breakthrough campaign.
The 20-year-old has emerged as one of the most exciting young midfielders in Denmark after an impressive 2025/26 season, making 30 appearances in the Danish Superliga while contributing two goals and six assists.
Yirenkyi has also enhanced his growing reputation on the international stage with Ghana, playing a pivotal role during the Black Stars’ run to the Round of 32 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The talented midfielder announced himself in spectacular fashion by scoring the winning goal in Ghana’s opening group-stage victory over Panama before featuring prominently against England, Croatia and Colombia.
Speaking on the Transferguru podcast, Riget admitted the club are prepared for the possibility of losing one of their brightest talents this summer after establishing himself among the league’s standout performers.
“Caleb is about to have played a lot of games, and we have made some plans with him, so it could well be a summer sale because he has established himself as one of the best midfielders in the Super League, although I would say that he has looked a little tired towards the end,” Riget said.
Riget believes Yirenkyi’s maturity and rapid development have put him in a position to bypass the traditional pathway many young players follow before reaching Europe’s biggest competitions.
Rather than moving to a smaller league such as the Netherlands or joining a lower-table Bundesliga club, the Nordsjaelland chief insists the Ghana international is capable of making an immediate impact in one of Europe’s top five leagues.
“He is extremely mature. We have agreed that he does not need an intermediate step in a Dutch sub-top club or the bottom of the Bundesliga. He is ready, we think, to move directly to a top-five league and also a bit higher,” he added.
Yirenkyi’s impressive performances for both club and country have not gone unnoticed, with several European heavyweights reportedly tracking his development ahead of the summer transfer window.
Spanish giants Real Madrid, Arsenal, Brighton & Hove Albion and FC Porto are all understood to be monitoring the midfielder’s progress.
With his stock continuing to rise after a stellar domestic season and an impressive FIFA World Cup campaign, Yirenkyi now appears well-positioned to secure the biggest move of his career in the coming weeks.
