Ghanaian forward Albert Amoah has become a free agent following the reported termination of his contract with Libyan Premier League giants Al Ahly Benghazi.
The 24-year-old striker is now available to negotiate with interested clubs after his brief spell in Libya came to an early end, bringing an unexpected conclusion to a move that had generated significant attention.
Amoah joined Al Ahly Benghazi from Asante Kotoko during the 2025/26 season in a high-profile transfer, but his time at the club failed to develop as expected due to limited opportunities and reported disagreements surrounding the move.
The former Porcupine Warriors attacker struggled to secure regular playing time in Libya, while issues between the two clubs over transfer payments also created tension shortly after the deal was completed.
Asante Kotoko had reportedly raised concerns over delayed payments, with the club threatening to seek FIFA intervention over the outstanding transfer obligations.
With his progress stalled, Amoah returned to Ghana in January 2026 on a short-term loan arrangement with Kotoko, where he immediately reminded supporters of his quality.
The striker made a strong return to domestic football, scoring a spectacular overhead kick on his comeback and rediscovering the form that made him one of Ghana’s most promising young forwards.
However, behind the scenes, Al Ahly Benghazi were already working towards ending their relationship with the player, eventually reaching an agreement to terminate his contract.
Reports indicate that the Libyan club paid Amoah a compensation package believed to be around $30,000 to secure the early cancellation of the remaining period of his contract.
With his loan spell at Kotoko now completed and his contract situation resolved, Amoah enters the transfer market as one of the most attractive free agents available.
The forward’s proven Ghana Premier League record, attacking ability and experience at both domestic and international levels are expected to attract interest from clubs looking to strengthen their frontline ahead of the new campaign.
After a difficult chapter in Libya, Amoah will now be focused on finding the right environment to relaunch his career and return to the consistent goalscoring form that made him one of Ghana football’s exciting attacking talents.
