Former Asante Kotoko striker Alex Asamoah, popularly known as ‘Makwekwe’, believes his achievements deserve to place him among the greatest forwards in the history of the Porcupine Warriors.
The 40-year-old former Ghana Premier League attacker made the claim while reflecting on his successful spell with Kotoko, particularly his memorable Golden Boot-winning campaign.
Asamoah finished as the Ghana Premier League top scorer in the 2008/09 season, scoring 16 goals for the Kumasi-based giants and establishing himself as one of the league’s most prolific forwards at the time.
According to the former AshantiGold and Berekum Arsenal striker, Kotoko have struggled to produce another league Golden Boot winner since his achievement.
“I won the Ghana Premier League Goal King during my time with Kotoko. Since then, Kotoko have struggled to produce a Goal King,” Asamoah told Kumasi-based Angel FM.
He also referenced Franck Mbella Etouga’s impressive 21-goal haul for Kotoko, pointing out that the Cameroonian forward still missed out on the Golden Boot, which was won by Yaw Annor.
“Mbella scored 21 goals but fell short to Yaw Annor. I consider myself one of the best strikers Kotoko has ever had,” he added.
