Asante Kotoko have submitted a proposal to the National Sports Authority (NSA) seeking to secure Baba Yara Sports Stadium as their exclusive home venue for the entire 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season.
According to Akoma Sports, the Porcupine Warriors are looking to move away from the current match-by-match rental system and instead enter into a season-long agreement that will give them greater control over the facility.
Under the proposed arrangement, Kotoko would manage all matchday activities at the stadium and retain revenue generated from their home fixtures, while the NSA would continue to oversee the maintenance and preparation of the venue for league matches.
The move is part of Kotoko’s efforts to create a more stable home environment as they prepare for the new campaign under head coach Eric Tinkler.
Baba Yara Sports Stadium has traditionally served as Kotoko’s home ground, with the club paying usage fees for individual matches. However, the proposed deal would provide the club with more certainty and allow better planning for ticketing, commercial activities and matchday operations throughout the season.
The development comes as the NSA continues rehabilitation and upgrade works at the Kumasi-based stadium ahead of the start of the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season.
NSA Director General Yaw Ampofo Ankrah recently inspected the facility, including the playing surface and ongoing improvement works, and expressed optimism that Baba Yara Stadium would be ready to host competitive matches.
The proposal is now awaiting consideration and approval from the relevant authorities. If accepted, the agreement would mark a significant change in the relationship between Asante Kotoko and the national sports facility.
With the new league season fast approaching, the Porcupine Warriors are eager to finalize their home-ground arrangements as they aim for a stronger campaign after last season’s struggles.
