Ghanaian forward Joseph Opoku has expressed his delight after marking his Swansea City debut with a crucial goal in their 2-1 victory over Stoke City on the opening day of the 2026/27 Championship season.
The 20-year-old attacker, who joined Swansea this summer from Belgian side Zulte Waregem, made an immediate impact by scoring in his first competitive appearance for the club.
Opoku produced an impressive display as Swansea secured all three points, helping the Welsh side make a winning start to their Championship campaign.
Reflecting on the match, the young Ghanaian said he was pleased with both his personal contribution and the team’s performance.
“I’m really happy with the win, and I’m happy for the team too,” Opoku told Swansea City media.
The forward revealed that his goal came from following instructions given to him by manager, particularly his movement into the penalty area.
“It was a great feeling. The manager always tells me to always arrive late into the box, and when that moment came, I just didn’t think twice. I really enjoyed it, and I hope for more moments like that.”
Opoku’s early impact will boost his confidence as he looks to establish himself in English football and become an important figure for Swansea City throughout the season.
The Ghanaian youngster will now aim to build on his impressive debut by contributing more goals and assists as Swansea pursue their ambitions in the Championship.
