Belgium Pro League side KRC Genk has strengthened its squad with the signing of talented Ghanaian striker Jerry Afriyie. The 19-year-old Ghanaian joins from Al-Qadsiah in Saudi Arabia and signs a contract at the Cegeka Arena for five seasons.
With Afriyie, KRC Genk brings an energetic and offensively versatile profile to Limburg. The Ghanaian attacker can play on both flanks, but can also be deployed centrally or around the striker. He brings speed and depth to the Cegeka Arena.
Best young player of Ghana
Afriyie was trained at Thoughts FC in Ghana and moved to Al-Qadsiah in January 2025. Last season, he was loaned to La Louvière, where he scored 5 goals and provided 1 assist. There, with his energy, direct playing style, and goal-scoring ability, he showed why he is considered one of the greatest talents of his generation in Ghana.
In 2025, Afriyie won the Odartey Lamptey Future Star Award, the prize for Ghana’s best young player. Earlier, he also impressed as a top scorer for the national U20 team. In the spring, he was even called up for the first time for a friendly match with Ghana A. He completed his pre-season preparations at Al-Qadsiah, the club where he was a teammate of compatriot and former Genk player Christopher Bonsu Baah.
“Jerry is a boy with tremendous energy,” said Head of Football Dimitri de Condé. “Everything he does, he does at 100%. That fits the intensity we want to see at KRC Genk.”
At the same time, the club sees significant room for growth in Afriyie. “He has many intrinsic qualities and possesses weapons that are important in modern football: speed, explosiveness, depth, and a threat in one-on-one situations,” continues de Condé. “Furthermore, he is still young, and we are offering him the support system to further develop himself. We strongly believe that he will be an excellent addition to the current squad. Today and in the future.”
