Ghana international defender Abdul Mumin has revealed that Girona’s attractive style of football and ambitious long-term project were major factors behind his decision to join the Spanish club ahead of the 2026/27 season.
The 28-year-old centre-back completed a free transfer to Girona after leaving fellow LaLiga side Rayo Vallecano. Mumin has signed a three-season contract with the Catalan club and is expected to add valuable experience, strength and defensive depth to the squad.
Speaking about his decision, Mumin highlighted Girona’s footballing philosophy and impressive development in recent years as key reasons for choosing the club.
“The main thing that attracted me to Girona, I think, is the club itself. Girona, I think, is a club with a lot of history and over the past years, the type of football they play has been very attractive,” Mumin said.
He added that Girona’s ambitious project could provide an excellent environment for players seeking to develop their careers.
“I believe that for all footballers that want to improve in their professional career, it’s a project that they will look up to,” he explained.
Mumin arrives at Girona with four years of experience in Spanish football. Before joining the club, he spent four seasons with Rayo Vallecano, where he gained considerable experience competing at the highest level in Spain and made more than 60 official appearances.
The 1.88-metre defender previously played for Danish side FC Nordsjælland and Portuguese club Vitória Guimarães before establishing himself in LaLiga.
His move to Girona also comes after an important period with the Ghana national team. Mumin made his senior international debut in June 2024 and was part of Ghana’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, further strengthening his international experience.
With his physical presence, defensive ability and knowledge of Spanish football, Mumin could prove to be an important addition to Girona’s backline. The club will be hoping his experience can help provide greater stability and competition in defence as they prepare for the challenges of the new campaign.
For Mumin, the move represents another significant step in his career and an opportunity to continue developing within a club whose modern footballing identity and ambitions closely match his own aspirations.
