Asante Kotoko head coach Eric Tinkler has declared that the Porcupine Warriors have everything it takes to challenge for and win the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League title.
The South African tactician, who was appointed in July, is overseeing a major rebuilding process at the Kumasi-based club following a disappointing 2025/26 campaign. After several weeks of pre-season preparations, Tinkler believes his squad is capable of competing for the league’s biggest prize.
His remarks came after Kotoko’s victory over Heart of Lions in a pre-season friendly, where he continued to assess his players ahead of the new campaign.
Speaking to journalists, Tinkler stressed that the Ghana Premier League remains the club’s primary focus, despite upcoming cup fixtures.
“We have another game on Sunday, a very important one, and then we face Hearts of Oak. That will be our last preparatory game. It’s a cup match, but I see it as preparation because the league is the most important competition for us as a club. We want to perform at the highest level in the league. We have the materials to compete for the league, and that’s the most important thing,” he said.
The former Cape Town City, Orlando Pirates and SuperSport United coach is aiming to restore Kotoko’s status as one of Ghana’s dominant clubs after the Porcupine Warriors finished last season without silverware.
Kotoko will continue their pre-season programme with another friendly before taking on fierce rivals Hearts of Oak in the 2026 Democracy Cup, which Tinkler considers a key test ahead of the league opener.
The Porcupine Warriors will begin their 2026/27 Ghana Premier League campaign away to newly promoted Debibi United, with expectations high that Tinkler can lead the club back into title contention and deliver their first league championship under his tenure.
