Dreams FC head coach Winfred Dormon has admitted that the departure of veteran striker John Antwi leaves a significant void, describing the former captain as a leader whose influence extended far beyond the football pitch.
Antwi recently brought his time with the Still Believe club to an end after playing a pivotal role both as captain and one of the team’s most experienced figures.
Speaking ahead of the GHALCA Top 4 tournament, Dormon praised the Ghanaian forward for his leadership and impact within the squad.
“Well, it’s a big move. You all know what Antwi did for this team and what this team was looking for. He was more or less like a coach but a leader on the pitch. He commanded respect,” Dormon said.
The Dreams FC coach also highlighted the veteran striker’s influence on the dressing room and the club’s culture.
“He really influenced the player group on and off the pitch. He’s a good player but hey, come on, this is football and this is what Dreams FC stand for. This club is always in transition and as and when the opportunity comes, this club will never ever close doors on any other player. We can only wish him all the best.”
Despite acknowledging Antwi’s departure as a major loss, Dormon insisted Dreams FC will continue to embrace change and provide opportunities for the next generation of players.
The club also paid tribute to their former captain, thanking him for his leadership, commitment and goals while wishing him success in the next phase of his career.
