Abdul Fatawu Issahaku provided a superb assist for Ipswich Town but could not prevent his side from suffering a heavy 5-2 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford in the English Premier League.
The Ghana international continued his impressive start to the new campaign by earning another starting berth for Ipswich Town in their Week Two encounter.
Issahaku made his mark in the 29th minute when he set up Leif Davis for Ipswich’s opening goal. The Ghanaian picked out Davis inside the penalty area, with the defender producing an excellent finish that struck the underside of the crossbar before finding the back of the net.
The assist underlined Issahaku’s attacking influence as Ipswich took an early lead against the home side.
Manchester United, however, fought back before the break through Bruno Fernandes, who capitalised on a defensive error to level the score in the 40th minute.
United then took control after the interval, with Jacob Greaves turning the ball into his own net in the 56th minute before Fernandes converted a penalty five minutes later.
The Portuguese midfielder completed his hat-trick in the 68th minute, while Bryan Mbeumo added United’s fifth in the 82nd minute.
Ipswich pulled one back in stoppage time through Chuba Akpom, but it proved nothing more than a consolation as Manchester United secured a convincing 5-2 victory.
Issahaku was substituted in the 83rd minute after another lively individual display.
Despite the defeat, the Ghanaian’s assist gives him another positive contribution to build on as he continues to establish himself as an important attacking player for Ipswich Town.
