The Ghana Football Association has extended the deadline for applications for the vacant Black Stars head coach position to October 15, 2026, as the search committee continues its efforts to identify a suitable candidate to lead the senior national team.
The decision follows an initial assessment by the coach search committee, which recommended a more structured recruitment process to ensure the appointment of a coach capable of delivering sustained success for Ghana.
The GFA, in consultation with the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, said the selection process would continue through October and November, with the committee expected to submit its final recommendation after completing its assessment.
The extension is intended to provide additional qualified candidates with an opportunity to apply while giving the committee more time to evaluate prospective applicants.
Candidates will be assessed based on their technical competence, leadership qualities, cultural understanding and high-performance credentials. The process will also include background checks and consultations with key football stakeholders and technical experts.
According to the GFA, the objective is to appoint a coach whose philosophy and vision align with the long-term development and ambitions of the Black Stars.
With the recruitment process expected to extend beyond the immediate international window, the association has announced plans to appoint an interim technical team to manage the national team during its November fixtures.
The temporary coaching arrangement is expected to ensure continuity in the team’s preparations, facilitate player monitoring and engagement, and maintain the national team’s programme while the search for a permanent head coach continues.
The interim technical team will also help manage the transition when a substantive coach is eventually appointed.
The GFA and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation have appealed to supporters, former players, football administrators and other stakeholders to exercise patience and support the recruitment process.
They maintain that the priority is to establish a strong foundation for sustained success at both continental and international levels.
The search for a new head coach comes as Ghana seeks to determine the future direction of the Black Stars, with the committee expected to identify a candidate capable of rebuilding the team’s competitiveness and guiding it into its next phase.
