Ghanaian forward André Ayew has responded to calls for him to become the next President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), insisting that his immediate priority is finding ways to improve the country’s football.

Ayew said discussions about who should take over the GFA leadership could wait, stressing that the focus should be on addressing the challenges facing Ghanaian football and taking practical steps to improve the game.

“People are calling me, but my main concern is what’s happening now and how we can make our football better. We need to start now, not tomorrow. Questions about who will take over can come later.”

The former Black Stars captain also pointed to his experience in football administration, explaining that his previous role as a club chief executive officer had given him an understanding of the domestic game and the changes it needed.

“I’ve also served as a club CEO, so I understand the local game. I know things need to improve. We need to start somewhere and take steps to improve our football. That’s my position.”

Ayew’s comments come amid ongoing discussions about the future direction of Ghanaian football, with concerns frequently raised about player development, the competitiveness of the domestic league, club administration and the performance of the national teams.

His remarks suggest that he wants attention directed towards practical reforms rather than speculation about future leadership positions.

Although calls have emerged for the experienced forward to consider a future role at the GFA, Ayew has not committed himself to a presidential ambition. Instead, he has emphasised the need to begin addressing the problems affecting the sport immediately.
