Ghanaian forward Joseph Opoku produced a standout display, registering a goal and an assist as Swansea City returned to winning ways with an emphatic 4-0 victory over Blackburn Rovers in the English Championship on Saturday.
The 21-year-old continued his impressive start to life in Wales, playing a decisive role as Swansea bounced back from last weekend’s defeat to Queens Park Rangers with a dominant performance at the Swansea.com Stadium.
Opoku wasted little time making his mark, providing the assist for Stephen Eustaquio’s opener inside the opening 10 minutes after a flowing attacking move gave the hosts the perfect start.
The former Zulte Waregem attacker doubled Swansea’s advantage midway through the first half, capitalising on a costly defensive mistake by Tom Atcheson before calmly firing beyond Blackburn goalkeeper Balazs Tóth for his latest goal of the campaign.
Swansea tightened their grip on the contest before the interval when Filip Lissah added a third goal, sending Vítor Matos’ side into halftime with a commanding three-goal advantage.
Ross Stewart completed the rout in the second half, rounding off an impressive team performance that secured all three points for the Swans.
Since completing his move from Belgian outfit Zulte Waregem during the summer transfer window, Opoku has quickly established himself as one of Swansea’s key attacking players. His latest contribution takes his tally to five goal involvements in 12 Championship appearances, underlining his growing influence in the side.
The convincing victory sees Swansea respond positively after last weekend’s setback and provides a timely confidence boost as they continue their push up the Championship table.
For Opoku, another influential display further strengthens his reputation as one of Ghana’s exciting young attacking talents, with his pace, movement and composure in front of goal continuing to impress in English football.
