Canada head coach Jesse Marsch says he is working closely with Brighton and Hove Albion manager Fabian Hürzeler to support the development of striker Promise David following his move to the English Premier League.
David has struggled for regular playing time since joining Brighton from Belgian side Royale Union Saint-Gilloise, where he scored 41 goals in 82 appearances across two seasons.
The 24-year-old has managed just 78 minutes across all competitions this season, featuring in four of Brighton’s 14 matches. However, Marsch believes the striker is in the right environment to develop and adapt to the demands of English football.
Marsch revealed that he held discussions with Hürzeler about three weeks ago to compare their approaches towards improving the Canadian international’s game.
He said both coaches share similar views on what David needs to work on to reach a higher level, while praising the striker’s positive attitude and confidence.
Marsch has also assigned his assistant coach, Mauro Biello, to maintain weekly communication with a member of Brighton’s technical staff to monitor David’s progress and receive regular feedback.
The Canadian coach believes the striker could play an important role in the country’s upcoming UEFA Nations League-style CONCACAF Nations League quarter-final encounters against Guatemala.
With Cyle Larin unavailable through injury, David could receive an opportunity to lead Canada’s attack in the two-legged tie.
Canada will travel to Guatemala for the first leg on November 13 before hosting the return fixture at BMO Field in Toronto on November 16.
