Head coach of Ghana’s Black Meteors side, Paa Kwesi Fabin has claimed Asante Kotoko would gave been in a much better position had they maintained coach Johnson Smith.
The Porcupine Warriors started the 2020/21 season with coach Maxwell Konadu in the dugouts but the now Legon Cities coach was shown the exit following a run of poor results including the loss to Accra Great Olympics in the first round of the league.
Following his dismissal from the club, Johnson Smith was given the role as the club’s interim manager, beginning from December 18, leading to occupy the the top of the Ghana Premier League table for sometime.
Abdul Gazale was then shortly appointed in February to lead the club with Smith reverting back to his role as assistant coach.
Kotoko also went ahead to appoint former Black Stars coach, Mariano Barreto a month later to guide the team for the rest of the season, and also possibly continuing to end of the 2021/22 campaign.
However, with Hearts of Oak going on to win the league title ahead of the Kumasi-based club, Fabin believes Smith would have done a ‘better job’ for the club if he had kept his place.
“Asante Kotoko would have done better if they had maintained Johnson Smith at the wheel,” the former Aduana Stars coach told Kumasi-based Nhyira FM.
Kotoko are set for a second-place finish with four points being the difference between themselves and newly-crowned champions Hearts of Oak.
