Legon Cities head coach Samuel Paa Kwesi Fabin expressed his excitement following his team’s victory over Asante Kotoko in the Ghana Premier League.
The Royals triumphed 2-1 on Wednesday night, marking their first win of the season in an impressive display at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The match was a disappointing outing for the Porcupine Warriors, who had previously enjoyed a strong start to the campaign. Legon Cities took the lead in the 22nd minute with a goal from Albert Yeboah, setting the tone for a challenging contest for Kotoko.
Kotoko managed to equalize in the 76th minute when in-form forward Albert Amoah found the net, reigniting hopes for the visitors with just 14 minutes remaining. However, Abdul Rahman delivered a crucial stoppage-time goal to secure maximum points for Legon Cities.
“It’s a good feeling beating a team like Kotoko, and I thank God for that,” Fabin said after the match. He also expressed optimism that this victory could serve as a turning point for his side, who have struggled at the start of the season. “I told you from the beginning this game might be the turnaround, the turning point that we all need for us to kick off our campaign, so it’s a good victory for us,” he added.
With this win, Legon Cities have climbed from the bottom to the 17th position on the Ghana Premier League standings after eight matches. They will host Young Apostles in matchday 9 of the league campaign.
