German-based attacker Braydon Manu has made an honest admission in an interview that he had not played enough to merit a Black Stars call up for the Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
The 24-year old forward and St. Pauli attacker Daniel Kofi Kyereh, were handed a late call up by head coach Charles Akonnor upon the recommendations of technical director Bernhard Lippert for the two games against Ethiopia and South Africa.
However, Manu who currently plays club football for Darmstadt didn’t get to make his Ghana debut as he was unused in both of the Black Stars’ 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying games against Ethiopia and South Africa.
After rejoining Darmstadt in the Bundesliga II where he is spending the 2021/22 season on loan from third-tier club Hallescher FC the former St Pauli youth team player says in an interview that he didn’t merit his Black Stars call-up.
“I was surprised because at first I thought it was fake. I didn’t believe it. First of all I had a call from the technical director.
“I was happy but still I was like how? Because to be honest I had not play that much to say that they should call me because I’ve prove,” he told Team-based Ahotor FM.
“I score goals. I assist. But, that I thought to myself maybe they see something in me that other people have not seen. It was after that Charles Akonnor, the coach, called me,” Manu concluded.
Manu has played a total of just 78 minutes out of 540 Bundesliga II and Pokal Cup minutes combined this campaign for Darmstadt.
