Ghanaian defender Abdul Fatawu Hamidu opened his scoring account for Ghazl El Mahalla FC in their 3-1 triumph over ZED FC in the Egyptian League Cup on Thursday afternoon.
The former Black Stars left-back delivered an impressive performance at the El Gazel Stadium, netting the second goal for his team in a dominant display.
Veteran forward Mohamed Hamdi gave El Mahalla an early lead, finding the net in the 11th minute with an assist from Abdel Yehia. Hamidu extended the advantage in the 25th minute, finishing a well-timed pass from Tunisian attacker Mohamed Ben Hammouda.
Abdel Yehia added a third goal just before halftime, giving El Mahalla a commanding 3-0 lead. ZED FC managed a consolation goal in the 71st minute through Shady Hussein, who converted from the penalty spot.
Hamidu’s strong outing concluded in the 86th minute when he was substituted for Ibrahim Hassan. The former Medeama SC defender joined Ghazl El Mahalla during the summer transfer window and has since made three league appearances in addition to his League Cup debut.
Hamidu’s goal highlights his growing influence at the Egyptian club as he continues to adapt to life in the Egyptian Premier League.
