Ghana international Abdul Fatawu Issahaku has established himself as one of the most exciting talents to emerge from Ghana in recent years. Blessed with exceptional dribbling ability, creativity and pace, Issahaku’s journey from Northern Ghana to European football has made him one of the brightest prospects in African football.

Age and Early Life

Abdul Fatawu Issahaku was born on March 8, 2004, in Tamale, Ghana.

Growing up in the Northern Region, he developed a passion for football at a young age and quickly became recognized for his natural talent. His performances in youth football caught the attention of scouts, leading him to join the renowned Steadfast FC, where he continued his development.

His rapid progress through the youth ranks soon marked him out as one of Ghana’s most promising young players.

Height and Playing Style

Issahaku stands at approximately 1.77 metres (5 feet 10 inches).

Primarily a winger, he is comfortable playing on either flank and can also operate as an attacking midfielder. His style of play is characterized by flair, confidence and a willingness to take on defenders.

His key strengths include:

  • Exceptional dribbling ability
  • Pace and acceleration
  • Creativity in attack
  • Vision and passing
  • Goal-scoring threat
  • Ability to create chances from wide positions

These qualities have made him one of the most exciting attacking players produced by Ghana in recent years.

Nationality and Ghanaian Parents

Abdul Fatawu Issahaku is Ghanaian by nationality and was born and raised in Ghana.

He comes from Ghanaian parents and grew up in Tamale, where his football journey began. Unlike several Black Stars players who were born abroad, Issahaku’s rise is rooted entirely in Ghana’s domestic football structure.

His success story has inspired many young footballers across Northern Ghana, demonstrating that talent from every part of the country can reach the highest levels of the game.

Club Career and Transfers

Breakthrough at Steadfast FC

Issahaku first gained widespread attention while playing for Steadfast FC. His performances in youth competitions and local tournaments showcased his extraordinary attacking talent and attracted interest from clubs both in Ghana and abroad.

Move to Sporting CP

His impressive displays earned him a transfer to Portuguese giants Sporting CP in 2022.

The move was viewed as one of the biggest transfers involving a young Ghanaian player at the time. Joining a club renowned for developing world-class talents provided Issahaku with an ideal platform to continue his growth.

Loan Move to Leicester City

Seeking regular first-team football, Issahaku joined Leicester City on loan ahead of the 2023/24 season.

His impact in England was immediate. He played a crucial role in Leicester’s successful campaign, helping the club secure promotion back to the Premier League with a series of impressive performances.

Permanent Transfer to Leicester City

Following a successful loan spell, Leicester City activated the option to sign Issahaku permanently from Sporting CP.

The transfer marked another significant milestone in his career, confirming the club’s belief in his potential and making him one of Ghana’s most valuable young footballers.

International Career

Issahaku’s talent was evident from an early age, and he represented Ghana at youth level before earning promotion to the senior national team.

He gained international recognition during the CAF African Nations Championship qualifiers and later became one of the youngest players to feature for the Black Stars.

He represented Ghana at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, gaining valuable experience on the biggest stage in international football.

Since then, he has remained an important part of Ghana’s plans for future tournaments.

Career Achievements

Among his notable achievements are:

  • Emerging from Steadfast FC as one of Ghana’s top prospects
  • Winning the CAF Young Player of the Year award in 2022
  • Securing a move to Sporting CP
  • Helping Leicester City gain promotion to the Premier League
  • Representing Ghana at the FIFA World Cup
  • Becoming one of the leading young talents in African football

As he continues to develop in one of Europe’s most competitive football environments, expectations remain high that he will become a key figure for both Leicester City and the Black Stars for many years to come.
