The journey to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) officially begins today, Wednesday, September 4, 2024, as several nations launch their campaigns to secure a spot in next year’s prestigious tournament in Morocco.
In Group F, Sudan and Niger are set to clash at the Juba Stadium in South Sudan on Wednesday afternoon. Sudan, the 1970 AFCON champions, are eager to bounce back after missing out on the last edition held in Ivory Coast.
Meanwhile, Niger is looking to qualify for the tournament for only the third time in their history, with their last appearance dating back to 2013.
Another highly anticipated qualifier this week features Libya and Rwanda, who will face off at the 11 June Stadium on Wednesday evening. This will be Libya’s 11th AFCON qualifying campaign, while Rwanda seeks to make their second-ever appearance in the competition, having first qualified in 2004.
