Invited for the gala match of the inauguration ceremony of the Abdoulaye Wade Stadium in Diamniadio, the former star of the Elephants of the Ivory Coast Didier Drogba met some Senegalese players that he faced during the 2013 AFCON qualifiers.
On October 13, 2012, Côte d’Ivoire won 2-0 against Senegal in Dakar with a huge Didier Drogba (3-1 for the Elephants in the first leg) before the invasion of the pitch by the supporters of the Lions of Teranga during a controversial game.
This caused the suspension of the Léopold Sédar Senghor stadium.
Nearly ten years later, the man who scored twice and eliminated Senegal found his few victims of October 2012 on Tuesday in the city of Diamniadio on the occasion of the inauguration ceremony of the Abdoulaye Wade Stadium.
And in front of the journalists present, Didier Drogba did not fail to remind them of this very painful memory for the Senegalese people.
“I used to chastise my Senegalese brothers by telling them that it was me who closed the Léopold Sédar Senghor stadium and I was the still the one who opened the new Abdoulaye Wade stadium (laughs).
But it’s a good atmosphere, and it’s always a pleasure to be there with family, friends, it’s only happiness, “joked the former Chelsea striker.
