Al Ahly winger Hussein El-Shahat has etched his name in the annals of the FIFA Club World Cup, securing a new record for the most games played in the tournament.
El-Shahat played a pivotal role in Al Ahly’s 3-1 triumph over Al Ittihad, contributing the second goal in their opening game.
His goal not only propelled Al Ahly to victory but also elevated him to an elite group, becoming only the fourth player to score in four different editions of the FIFA Club World Cup—joining the ranks of Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, and Gareth Bale.
In the clash against Al Ittihad on Friday, El-Shahat further solidified his place in history by marking his 13th appearance in the competition. This feat surpasses the contributions of club legends Mohamed Abou-Trika, Wael Gomaa, and Hossam Ashour.
Al Ahly will next face Brazilian giants Fluminense at the semi-final stage of the competition on Monday.
