Ghanaian international Alexander Djiku delivered an outstanding performance for Fenerbahce on Thursday night, helping the Turkish giants secure a 1-1 draw against Manchester United in their Europa League Round 3 matchup.
In front of a packed stadium, Djiku stood out as the defensive anchor for Fenerbahce, putting in a stellar shift that earned him the highest rating across both teams.
Starting as one of Fenerbahce’s two central defenders, Djiku played the full 90 minutes with a commanding presence. His impressive performance earned him a rating of 7.8, the highest on the field, surpassing even the Manchester United players.
Throughout the match, Djiku displayed remarkable defensive skills, making key plays to keep Fenerbahce level with the English side. His contributions included three critical clearances, one blocked shot, five interceptions, and seven successful tackles, consistently halting Manchester United’s offensive efforts.
The game saw Fenerbahce fall behind early when Christian Eriksen scored in the 15th minute for Manchester United. However, Allan Saint-Maximin’s skillful play set up Youssef En-Nesyri, who scored in the 49th minute to equalize.
Djiku’s solid defensive work was crucial in maintaining Fenerbahce’s resilience, especially in the final stages when Manchester United pushed hard for a winning goal. His well-timed tackles and interceptions were key in securing a valuable point for Fenerbahce in the Europa League group stage.
