Ghanaian defender Alexander Djiku played a crucial role in Fenerbahce’s emphatic 5-0 win over Erzurumspor in the Turkish Cup on Wednesday night.
The Round 2 encounter, held at the Ulker Stadium in Istanbul, saw Djiku start as part of a three-man defense. His solid performance helped the team maintain a clean sheet in a dominant display.
Fenerbahce broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute when Brazilian forward Anderson Talisca found the back of the net, giving the home side a 1-0 lead at halftime.
After the break, veteran striker Cenk Tosun doubled the advantage from the penalty spot in the 50th minute. Midfielder Mert Yandas then added a third, before Moroccan forward Youssef En Nesyri netted twice to complete the rout.
Djiku, who played 55 minutes, was later substituted for Diego Carlos. With this victory, Fenerbahce secured a place in the next round of the Turkish Cup.
