Asante Kotoko SC and Accra Hearts of Oak have jointly announced the development of a detailed position paper for the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
This document highlights key recommendations aimed at elevating the Ghana Premier League and addressing pressing issues, particularly around security at match venues.
During a strategic meeting held in Accra, representatives from Asante Kotoko’s Interim Management Committee (IMC) and members of the Hearts of Oak Board and Management discussed the critical need for improved safety measures across the league. This initiative precedes their scheduled engagement with the GFA Executive Committee on Thursday, February 6, 2025.
Both clubs emphasized their commitment to ensuring fan safety following the tragic death of Nana Pooley, a devoted Asante Kotoko supporter, during a recent league match. The incident underscores the urgency of implementing robust security protocols to prevent such tragedies in the future.
The Hearts of Oak Board extended their condolences to Asante Kotoko, pledging solidarity and collaboration with Kotoko and other stakeholders to ensure that Pooley’s death will not be in vain.
In their joint statement, the two clubs urged the adoption of enhanced security measures and protocols. They also called for collaboration with stakeholders, including the government, GFA, law enforcement agencies, and football supporters. Their shared goal is to make football a safer and more enjoyable experience for all.
The clubs have appealed to the Ghana Football Association to take decisive action on the recommendations outlined in their position paper, reaffirming their commitment to improving the league for players, fans, and all stakeholders.
