Ghana and Fenerbahce defender Alexander Djiku has reaffirmed his commitment to the club’s Turkish Super Lig title pursuit, insisting the team will battle to the very end of the campaign.
The Black Stars centre-back made a late cameo appearance in Fenerbahce’s commanding 3-1 away victory over Sivasspor on Sunday in matchweek 29 of the Turkish top flight.
Djiku was introduced in the 89th minute, replacing Anderson Talisca, as the Yellow Canaries wrapped up an important win at the BG Group 4 Eylül Stadyumu.
“We keep pushing until the final whistle. Thank you for the support,” Djiku wrote on Instagram following the match.
Fenerbahce took the lead just before halftime through Brazilian forward Anderson Talisca in the 42nd minute. Just two minutes into the second half, Serbian playmaker Dusan Tadic doubled the lead for the visitors.
Sivasspor briefly cut the deficit when Germany international Efkan Bekiroglu scored in the 57th minute. However, Tadic sealed the win with his second of the night during stoppage time.
Djiku, 30, has featured in 35 matches across all competitions this season under experienced manager Jose Mourinho, scoring once. Fenerbahce remain in a tight title race and will be relying on experienced players like Djiku to maintain the push in the final stretch of the season.
