The Black Stars team manager, Ameenu Shardow, has brushed aside reports the management of the national team forgot Andre Ayew’s name to the team against Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium.
Ghana faced Angola in Kumasi on Thursday, March 24, on matchday three of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
But the topical issue from the game was Ayew’s name not being included on the artwork released by the Ghana Football Association prior to the game, an act which left many concerned.
And even though the Nottingham Forest man warmed up and was seen on the bench, media reports suggested his name was not part of the team.
“It’s not true that Andre Ayew was not on the list of the official matchday squad [against Angola in Kumasi],” Shardow said when quizzed on a Joy Sports Twitter Space.
“Even in the Ghana Premier League, if you’re not on the official list as a starter or a substitute, you can never be on the bench.
“Andre Ayew was on the bench and warmed up at some point in time only that he didn’t get the chance to play. If your name is not on the list, you have no business around the technical area or on the bench.
“We all saw the player on the bench so it should tell you something [that he was part of the matchday squad].”
Ayew also missed the reverse fixture between the Black Stars and the Palencas Negras in Luanda on Monday, March 27, due to a knee injury.
