Ghanaian forward Antoine Semenyo has opened up about his preferred position on the pitch, emphasizing his adaptability and comfort across all attacking roles.
The 25-year-old, known for his versatility, has been deployed as a winger on both flanks and occasionally as a centre forward throughout his career. His recent appearances for the Ghana national team on the left wing sparked discussions among fans, with some questioning head coach Otto Addo’s tactical decisions.
Addressing the debate, Semenyo expressed his willingness to play in any forward position. “Seriously, I feel like I’m comfortable playing in any role across the forward positions,” he shared in an interview with Stadium Astro.
Semenyo highlighted his ambidexterity as a key factor in his adaptability. “I’m comfortable playing whether on the left, right or in the middle,” he explained.
While he appreciates the flexibility of his current roles, the Bournemouth star revealed his long-term ambition of becoming a traditional striker. “In my head, the end goal is to be a number 9,” he said. “Maybe in the years to come when I’ve built the experience, I’ll eventually transition into that, but I’m not too hung up on that.”
Despite his aspirations, Semenyo remains open to wherever his career takes him. “If I end my career playing on either wing, I wouldn’t complain,” he concluded.
This season, Semenyo has impressed at Bournemouth, contributing five goals and two assists in the Premier League from wide positions. However, he is yet to record a goal or assist for Ghana in 2024.
