Medeama SC and Ibrahim Tanko are steadily building a strong case for what could become a historic double-winning season, as the Tarkwa-based club continues its impressive run in both the Ghana Premier League and the MTN FA Cup.
Fresh from a dominant 4-0 victory over Asante Kotoko SC, Medeama have surged to the top of the league table with 53 points after 29 matches, putting them firmly in control of the title race. Their consistency, attacking strength, and tactical discipline under Ibrahim Tanko have transformed them into one of the most formidable sides in Ghana this season
Attention now shifts to the FA Cup, where Medeama face in a crucial semi-final clash at the Swedru Stadium. The match represents more than just a step toward another trophy—it is a defining moment in the club’s pursuit of domestic dominance.
Historically, Medeama are no strangers to FA Cup success, having lifted the trophy twice in 2013 and 2015. Those triumphs, both secured against Kotoko, remain significant milestones in the club’s journey. Now, with a balanced squad and renewed ambition, the Mauve and Yellow appear poised to challenge for the title once again.
Speaking ahead of the semi-final, head coach Ibrahim Tanko emphasized the seriousness with which his team is approaching the competition, making it clear that Medeama are not prioritizing one trophy over the other.
“We are preparing very well, this is a different competition the MTN FA Cup, like you said, we are playing in the semi finals [and] we want to reach the finals so definitely we are preparing very well so that we will achieve our aim,” Ibrahim Tanko told MEDi TV.
He further stressed that the team’s preparation remains consistent regardless of the competition, underlining a professional approach that has contributed to their success so far.
“I don’t think we are going to take this one any differently, I mean we are going to prepare like we prepare in any of our league matches so definitely the preparation is going to be a very serious one.”
Tanko’s ambition extends beyond just reaching the final, as he openly declared the club’s intention to compete for every available trophy this season.
“I’ve always said that we are competing in any cup that is available, we are first in the league and we are playing semifinals in the FA Cup so definitely we are going to do everything possible to reach the finals.”
This mindset reflects a team that is not only confident but also driven by a clear objective—to dominate Ghanaian football. Medeama’s current form suggests that this ambition is not misplaced. Their blend of experienced players and emerging talents has created a squad capable of sustaining pressure across multiple competitions.
Dreams FC, however, stand as a significant hurdle. Known for their resilience and recent continental exploits, including a run to the CAF Confederation Cup semi-finals, they possess the quality to disrupt Medeama’s plans. Yet, if current momentum is anything to go by, Medeama enter the contest as slight favourites.
Beyond the tactical battles and individual brilliance, the bigger narrative remains whether Medeama can maintain their consistency through the final stretch of the season. Winning the league alone would be a remarkable achievement, but securing the FA Cup alongside it would elevate this campaign into one of the greatest in the club’s history.
For the fans in Tarkwa and beyond, hope is steadily turning into belief. The performances are convincing, the results are aligning, and the ambition is clear.
As the FA Cup semi-final approaches and the league title race intensifies, one question continues to linger—are Medeama truly destined for a historic double this season?
