Asante Kotoko head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum has expressed confidence in striker Isaac Mintah, urging patience as the forward looks to regain his goal-scoring touch.
Mintah, who joined the Porcupine Warriors on a free transfer from Aduana Stars, has yet to score in his first two appearances for the club this season. Despite his slow start, Ogum remains optimistic and believes the pressure of expectations is affecting the striker’s performance.
“Playing for Kotoko comes with a whole lot of expectations, and he needs to manage that pressure,” Ogum told the media.
“If you talk to him, you can see that he feels more is expected of him, and once a player starts thinking that way, it affects his execution on the pitch.
“The best thing to do now is to keep encouraging him. He plays well, he moves smartly behind defenders, and he is very intelligent. But the expectations placed on him, considering what he did at Aduana Stars before joining Kotoko, are weighing on him.
“He wants to replicate that form and his goal-scoring ability here, but that requires composure. As a coach, along with the technical team and supporters, we need to support him, be patient, and trust that the right moment will come.”
Mintah will have another chance to open his goal-scoring account when Kotoko face Samartex in a crucial Week 24 fixture on Saturday. A win would be vital for their title ambitions as they push for a strong finish to the season.
