A group of five players and three officials from Asante Kotoko Sporting Club has arrived at Kotoka International Airport after competing in the 2024 Capital City Cup in Washington, D.C.
The team’s participation in the tournament was surrounded by controversy after a large number of their players were denied visas by the U.S. embassy, limiting the squad for the competition.
However, the team returned to Ghana without two of their Sudanese players, Esmat AbdalHamid Mohamed and Obdoelkarem Yoouef Yagoub, who went missing before the team’s final training session for the Capital City Cup in Springfield, Virginia. The two players reportedly left the hotel on Friday and failed to return.
A statement from Asante Kotoko confirmed that the players were not found when the team departed for Ghana. The club has since reported the incident to Fairfax County Police, who are currently investigating the whereabouts of the two missing players.
This unfortunate incident casts a shadow over Kotoko’s participation in the U.S.-based tournament and raises concerns about the missing players’ safety and situation.
