Asante Kotoko forward Steven Mukwala expressed his elation after leading his team to victory over rivals Hearts of Oak in matchday 31 of the Ghana Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
The Porcupine Warriors secured a season sweep of their arch-rivals with a decisive 2-0 win at the Baba Yara Stadium, adding to their thrilling 3-2 victory earlier in the campaign.
Uganda international Mukwala was the star of the match, scoring both goals for Asante Kotoko. He opened the scoring just eight minutes into the game and sealed the victory with a second goal in injury time, ensuring his team earned maximum points.
“I feel so delighted. You know how it feels to win at Baba Yara against our rivals Hearts of Oak. I’m really happy and I know the fans are also happy. The players and technical team are proud of the fans,” Mukwala remarked.
Mukwala, recently named to the Uganda national squad for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, is also a strong contender for the Ghana Premier League goal king title. With 14 goals to his name, he trails the leader, Stephen Amankona, by just one goal.
This victory propels Kotoko into the top half of the table, moving them to 9th place and further away from the relegation zone. In contrast, Hearts of Oak find themselves in a precarious 14th place, just two points above the drop zone.
