Asante Kotoko have stepped up their interest in Karela United defender Faisal Gariba as the club continues its preparations for the upcoming Ghana Premier League season.
The Porcupine Warriors have identified the Tamale-based centre-back as a key defensive target, with talks expected to progress as they look to secure his services before the start of the new campaign.
Gariba, who joined Karela United on a three-year contract, has one year remaining on his current deal. However, Kotoko’s strong interest could lead to a potential transfer as the club seeks to strengthen its squad.
The defender has impressed with his performances for Karela United, earning praise for his consistency, aerial ability, physical strength and composure at the back.
Kotoko are keen to add defensive stability following the departure of captain Samba O’Neil, who was a key figure in the heart of their defence. The club views Gariba as a potential replacement capable of bringing reliability and leadership to the backline.
The move forms part of new head coach Eric Tinkler’s plans to rebuild the squad ahead of the new season. The South African coach is focused on assembling a competitive team capable of challenging for domestic honours, with defensive reinforcements among his top priorities.
