Steven Dese Mukwala, the Ugandan striker for Asante Kotoko, has described his first season with the club as challenging but expressed gratitude towards the fans for their support. He also conveyed confidence that the team will come back stronger.
Mukwala, who joined the Porcupine Warriors last summer after an impressive stint with Ugandan topflight side Ura FC, made a promising start in Kumasi. Despite some initial difficulties, he quickly adapted and made a significant impact throughout the season.
In his debut Ghana Premier League campaign, the 23-year-old featured in 30 matches, contributing to 16 goals with 11 goals and 5 assists. However, despite his individual success, Kotoko was unable to defend their title and finished in fourth place with 52 points.
Reflecting on his first season in the GPL, the Cranes forward acknowledged the arduous journey they experienced but assured fans that they will return with renewed vigor next season.
“I am proud of this team and every one that stood with us from the beginning of a challenging campaign.”
“It’s a season that we want to forget. Asante Kotoko is a big club and it deserves to be on top. A special thanks to the Porcupine fans, you are amazingly the best fans I have ever met .”
“The pride of Ashanti will bounce back Stronger and together we shall jubilate again. Always a warrior. #M9“
Currently, Mukwala is with the Ugandan national team as they prepare for their upcoming game in the 2023 AFCON qualifiers.
