Asante Kotoko midfielder Baba Yahaya has been ruled out of the club’s matchday four fixture against Berekum Chelsea after sustaining a late injury ahead of the trip.
The Porcupine Warriors will face Chelsea at the Golden City Park on Sunday, September 29, 2024.
Yahaya reported to the club’s medical team on Saturday morning, explaining that he had sprained his ankle after accidentally stepping into a concealed hole while taking a walk near his residence. The unexpected injury has sidelined the midfielder, who has been a key figure in Asante Kotoko’s lineup this season.
The club’s medical staff will conduct further assessments to determine the severity of the injury, but Yahaya has already been withdrawn from the squad traveling to Berekum. In his absence, promising youth player Jordan Amissah has been called up to take his place.
Asante Kotoko, who have collected four points from their first two matches, will be looking to continue their strong start to the season.
The clash against Berekum Chelsea is expected to be a stern test, with Chelsea only having lost twice at home to Kotoko in recent years.
