Asante Kotoko striker Albert Amoah has dismissed any concerns about losing his spot in the team following the return of Kwame Poku to the club.
Poku, 27, has rejoined the Porcupine Warriors on a two-and-a-half-year deal, marking his second spell with the Ghanaian giants. His return comes after challenging stints in Algeria and Morocco over the past three seasons.
Poku initially joined USM Alger in 2021 after scoring six goals in 16 Ghana Premier League games but struggled to secure consistent playing time. He later moved to Moroccan side Olympique Khouribga, where a persistent knee injury hampered his progress. Following the team’s relegation from the top flight, Poku was released, paving the way for his return to Kotoko.
Amoah, who has been a standout performer for Kotoko since signing from Great Olympics in the summer transfer window, is unfazed by the added competition. “I am not afraid of competition. I do not fear his (Kwame Poku) arrival. At the end of the day, it is the team that benefits. If I do not score, he can score. So that is positive for us,” Amoah stated.
The prolific forward has been instrumental for Kotoko, scoring seven goals in 13 league appearances. His most recent strike came in the Super Clash against Hearts of Oak, where he netted a stoppage-time winner to secure a vital victory for his team.
While Amoah has cemented his place as Kotoko’s leading man, Poku’s return is expected to bolster the club’s attacking options as they aim to remain competitive in the Ghana Premier League.
