Former Ghana international Frimpong Manso has offered valuable advice to Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare on how to solidify his place in the Black Stars setup.
The 32-year-old shot-stopper made his international debut in March, keeping a clean sheet in Ghana’s emphatic 5-0 victory over Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium on March 21. He followed it up with another impressive performance, maintaining a clean sheet in the 3-0 win against Madagascar, helping Ghana extend their lead in Group I to 15 points.
With head coach Otto Addo confirming Asare as his first-choice goalkeeper, Frimpong Manso, who currently manages Bibiani Goldstars, believes the Hearts of Oak keeper must stay focused and continue delivering strong performances, especially in the upcoming four-nation tournament.
“No one knew Benjamin Asare when he was at Olympics but within a short space of time, he’s been able to turn his fortunes around when he went to Accra Hearts of Oak,” Manso said. “He should keep believing in himself and work very hard to maintain his form. Asare needs this World Cup and needs the confidence from the bigger games which will come very soon.”
Manso emphasized the importance of the upcoming tournament, saying, “Asare needs to show much confidence in the four nation tournament in May this year. This will make him feel established and also cement his position as Black Stars number one goalie.”
Asare is expected to be named in Ghana’s squad for the 2025 Unity Cup, scheduled to take place in May in England.
