Ghanaian defender Baba Rahman has suggested that he may return to the Black Stars in the future, but only when he feels fully ready.
Rahman, 30, last played for the national team in a 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against the Central African Republic in Kumasi, where he faced boos from some sections of the crowd.
However, he emphasized that his absence from the team is not due to that incident, but rather a focus on his fitness and recovery.
“It’s a personal decision to take a break from international duty to concentrate on my fitness because I’ve struggled with injuries,” Rahman told BBC Sport Africa. “When I joined PAOK last year, I thought it was wise to step away from international football temporarily to get back to full fitness.”
Having spent 999 days sidelined between 2017 and 2020 due to multiple injuries, including two ACL tears, Rahman made his return for the 2021 AFCON and the 2022 World Cup, but both tournaments ended in early exits for Ghana.
“Fans are always asking me to come back, but right now, I need to prioritize my health,” Rahman explained. “Everyone knows about my injury history, and it’s been a difficult few years. I just want to enjoy playing club football again, and once I’m back to my best, I know my international career will follow.”
