FC Barcelona Atlètic players David Oduro and Abdul Aziz Issah are expected to be included in Ghana’s squad for next month’s international friendly against Mexico, as preparations gather pace for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The fixture, scheduled for May 22, is one of Ghana’s key warm-up matches ahead of the tournament in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
According to Spanish outlet SPORT, both players are strongly in contention for selection unless Barcelona Atlètic qualify for the promotion playoffs and request their release be withheld.
Abdul Aziz Issah has enjoyed a standout season, scoring four goals and establishing himself as a regular starter under coach Juliano Belletti with Barça B. His performances have earned him growing recognition, and he has already gained international experience after featuring briefly for Ghana in a 2025 friendly against Trinidad and Tobago during the Unity Cup in the UK.
David Oduro, meanwhile, is on the verge of returning from injury but has also impressed when fit. A potential call-up would mark his first involvement with the Black Stars senior team.
Aziz, currently in his second season on loan at Barcelona, continues to attract transfer interest, while Oduro remains under contract with the Catalan side until 2027.
The upcoming clash with Mexico will kick off a series of preparatory matches for Ghana ahead of the World Cup, where the Black Stars have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama.
Ghana will open their campaign against Panama on June 17, before facing England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.
Head coach Carlos Queiroz has been tasked with guiding the team beyond the group stage, as Ghana seeks to improve on early exits in both the 2014 and 2022 editions of the tournament.
