Former Ghana Football Association Vice President Fred Pappoe has expressed confidence in new Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz, praising the Portuguese tactician’s composure, experience, and clarity following his official unveiling in Accra.
Speaking to SuperSport after the ceremony, Pappoe said the 73-year-old made a strong and reassuring first impression, describing him as a calm and measured leader who clearly understands the magnitude of the task ahead.
“I think, generally, he came across as calm and mature, someone who has been around and knows his stuff,” Pappoe noted.
The former GFA official also highlighted Queiroz’s ability to strike a balance between confidence and realism, acknowledging the current challenges facing the Black Stars while still projecting belief in the team’s potential.
“He showed a lot of confidence in the task ahead without disrespecting the situation we find ourselves in,” he added.
Pappoe further pointed to the coach’s pragmatic mindset, revealing that Queiroz has already emphasised the need for discipline, structure, and proper preparation as Ghana builds toward the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
“He appears to be a realistic person and measured, even with the expectation, but very clear and letting us know that it is doable — whatever it is — but then we have to do the right things first,” he explained.
Queiroz, who previously managed top sides including Real Madrid and the Iran national team, has been handed a four-month contract to lead Ghana into the global tournament set to be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
The Black Stars face a challenging Group L campaign, where they will take on England, Croatia, and Panama. Ghana will open their tournament against Panama on June 17, before facing England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.
