German news outlet Merkur reports that Bayern Munich is considering signing Ghanaian international defender Daniel Amartey on a temporary contract as a solution to their ongoing injury crisis.
The 30-year-old, who is currently a free agent after leaving Turkish club Besiktas, brings a wealth of top-level experience.
Amartey’s career began with Sweden’s Djurgardens IF, where he established himself as a versatile and dynamic defensive player. His impressive performances earned him a move to FC Copenhagen before he joined Leicester City in the Premier League in 2016.
Amartey played a crucial role in Leicester’s unforgettable title-winning campaign and continued to be an integral part of the squad for several years. His ability to play both center-back and defensive midfield made him a dependable asset for the Foxes.
With Bayern Munich grappling with a defensive crisis due to injuries to key players like Dayot Upamecano, Alphonso Davies, and Hiroki Ito, Amartey has emerged as a potential short-term solution.
Other options for Bayern include Serge Aurier, the former PSG and Tottenham Hotspur player, who is also a free agent and capable of playing on either side of the full-back positions. Additionally, left-back Mario Rui, who previously played for AS Roma and Napoli, is another possible contender.
However, due to Bundesliga regulations, free-agent signings are not permitted outside of the transfer window, making an immediate move for Amartey unlikely at this time.
