According to Patrick Akoto, the spokesperson for Medeama, their victory over Asante Kotoko in Kumasi was the turning point in their triumphant 2022/23 Ghana Premier League campaign.
In a remarkable display, the Tarkwa-based team secured a 2-0 victory over the Porcupine Warriors at the Baba Yara Stadium in March 2023.
This win served as a catalyst, instilling confidence within the team and propelling them to clinch their first-ever Ghana Premier League title in the club’s illustrious history.
Patrick Akoto, the Head of Communication for Medeama, emphasized the significance of that match in their season.
“Undoubtedly, beating Kotoko in Kumasi was the turning point. It was a monumental achievement for us, and it kept us believing,” he stated during an interview with Takoradi-based Empire FM.
“Winning in Kumasi is no easy task. We accomplished that for the first time in our history, and it proved to be pivotal for our season.
“The boys’ confidence soared to unprecedented heights, and it greatly contributed to our success in the end.
“In a season where we secured victories against the two biggest clubs in Ghana, it can’t be seen as mere luck. It’s incredibly challenging to attain positive results at those venues, but we did it in style.”
Medeama triumphed over Hearts of Oak with an impressive 5-1 scoreline and defeated Asante Kotoko 2-0 in Accra and Kumasi respectively.
As a result of their accomplishments, the two-time Ghana FA Cup winners will represent the country in the upcoming CAF Champions League, a monumental achievement for the Tarkwa-based club.
