Black Starlets coach Laryea Kingston emphasizes Ghana’s determination not to become complacent following their resounding victory over Ivory Coast, as they prepare for a crucial match against Benin.
Ghana’s U17 team showcased their prowess last Thursday in the opening game of the WAFU B championship against Ivory Coast, securing a convincing 5-1 win with goals from Joseph Narbi, Godfred Sarpong, Harve Gbafa, and Mark Kagawa Mensah.
“Complacency? Oh no! It’s not in our dictionary,” Laryea asserted when questioned about the team’s mindset heading into the Benin match.
“We have our style, and that is what we hope to show. We aim to dominate the game in terms of possession and win, and that’s what we will be doing on Tuesday.”
“As for the Ivory Coast game, it’s past and gone, and we’ve forgotten about it. The most important game for us now is Benin, and we will approach it with all the necessary seriousness,” Laryea emphasized following the team’s final training session on Monday.
Ghana needs only to avoid defeat to clinch the top spot in the group and await their semi-final opponents. With two slots up for grabs for the U17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), the Black Starlets are determined to secure a spot in the final and make a return to the continental showpiece after a seven-year absence.
