Ghana’s coach, Chris Hughton, issued an apology following his team’s defeat to the United States of America (USA).
The Black Stars experienced a 4-0 loss against the US Men’s national team at the Geodis Stadium in Nashville in their final international friendly game for October on Wednesday dawn.
During a post-match conference, the 64-year-old coach extended his apologies for the game’s outcome.
“I apologize for the performance and the results,” said the former Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur coach.
USA broke the deadlock just 10 minutes into the game through Dortmund midfielder Giovanni Reyna. Captain Christian Pulisic then doubled the host’s advantage from the spot nine minutes later.
The USA continued their dominant performance as Monaco attacker Folarin Balogun found the back of the net in the 22nd minute, further extending the USA’s lead.
Just before half-time, Reyna scored the United States’ fourth goal from an indirect free-kick in the box to seal the host’s victory.
In the first game against Mexico at the Bank of America Stadium, Ghana suffered a 2-0 loss.
Following these two games, the Black Stars conceded six goals and were unable to score in either match.
The Black Stars will now shift their focus to the World Cup qualifiers in November. Ghana will begin its qualifiers against Madagascar on November 13 and Comoros on November 21 before the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast next year.
