Ghana’s Black Stars put on a brilliant display, defeating Chad 5-0 in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier at the Accra Sports Stadium.

This big win not only took Ghana to the top of Group I but also marked an important moment in the team’s history.

It was the first time the Black Stars had scored five goals in a match since 2020, when they beat Qatar by the same margin. For Chad, this heavy loss brought back memories of 2015, the last time they conceded five goals in a competitive game.

Ghana started strong, scoring in just the second minute through Antoine Semenyo, who reacted quickly to a rebound. Inaki Williams made it 2-0 in the 32nd minute with a fine header from Kingsley Schindler’s cross. Just before halftime, Jordan Ayew converted a penalty to give the Black Stars a comfortable 3-0 lead.

The second half saw more attacking play from Ghana. Mohammed Salisu added the fourth goal with a powerful header from an Ernest Nuamah corner. Nuamah then completed the scoring in the 69th minute after a clever pass from Ayew.

Coach Otto Addo’s team included key players like Thomas Partey, Mohammed Kudus, and Salisu, who all played an important role. Goalkeeper Benjamin Asare made his international debut but had little to do as Chad rarely threatened. Lawrence Agyekum also made his debut, replacing Partey in the second half.

With this victory, Ghana now turns attention to their next match against Madagascar on Monday in Morocco. A win will strengthen their position at the top and bring them closer to qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Chad, still without a win, will face Comoros in their next game.
