Following Ghana’s disappointing performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, Black Stars Team Manager Ameenu Shadow has broken his silence, expressing his thoughts on the team’s premature exit.
Ghana’s campaign in the tournament concluded at the group stage, failing to secure a victory in any of their group games. With two draws and a defeat, they finished in third place in Group B, trailing behind Cape Verde and Egypt.
Shadow, in his reflection on the tournament, acknowledged the challenges of AFCON, stating, “I’ve known from long that the AFCON is perhaps the toughest competition to win and thus have always been measured in my expectations of the @GhanaBlackstars going into this tournament. However, this group was good enough to at least progress from the group stage.”
Expressing his disappointment and recognizing the efforts put in by everyone involved, Shadow emphasized that sorry alone would not be enough. He called for collective action, saying, “Sorry alone will never be enough. We must together resolve to take ALL the necessary steps to reverse this unfortunate trend.”
In a plea for unity, Shadow invoked the proverb, ‘It takes a village,’ and expressed hope that the collective effort would lead to finding the right formula for success. He concluded optimistically, “Our time will surely come, maybe sooner if we… manage to find the right formula to crack what seems an elusive puzzle.”
