Great Olympics head coach, Yaw Preko, has stated that fans should blame Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko for the nation’s inability to have four slots to compete in the continental stage.
In the early 2000s, Ghana had four slots in Africa, two from the CAF Champions League and two for the CAF Confederation Cup. But poor performances from Ghanaian clubs now mean that the country has two slots in Africa, one each for CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup.
“We have lost our slots in Africa due to Hearts of Oak and Kotoko’s poor performances in the competition”, he said in an interview on Asempa FM.
“They have won the most titles in the country. When they go to Africa and they do well it reflects on all of us,’ he added.
Preko’s Olympics are currently top of the GPL table with 7 points from three games.
