Hearts of Lions head coach, Bashiru Hayford, has offered a candid evaluation of Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak following their recent Super Clash encounter, where Kotoko emerged victorious with a 1-0 win, courtesy of a last-minute goal from Albert Amoah.
Hayford, whose team remains the only side to have beaten both Kotoko and Hearts of Oak this season, expressed pride in his team’s achievement. “This season, I have beaten Hearts of Oak and Kotoko. My team is the only team this season to have done that,” he remarked, highlighting the significance of the feat.
Despite his pride, Hayford did not hold back in his assessment of the two traditional powerhouses, criticizing the overall quality of both teams. “We saw the standard when they played. Both teams are not strong,” he said on Asempa FM.
The experienced coach also singled out a critical defensive mistake by Hearts of Oak’s Osei Assibey, which led to Kotoko’s decisive goal. “The manner in which the goal came about was not good. A central defender going in for a scissor kick at that point was not good. The best thing was to get in front of the striker so that the keeper could get the ball. You don’t have to do any antics,” he explained.
For now, Hayford and his Hearts of Lions team will relish their success, while focusing on maintaining their momentum as the season progresses.
