Ghanaian striker Brandon Thomas-Asante found the back of the net in Coventry City’s 2-1 loss to Tottenham Hotspur in the third round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday evening.
Thomas-Asante gave the Championship side a deserved lead in the 63rd minute, expertly finishing Norman Bassette’s low cross. Coventry held onto their advantage until late in the match when Tottenham mounted a dramatic comeback.
Djed Spence leveled the score in the 88th minute after being set up by Dejan Kulusevski. Just five minutes later, Brennan Johnson completed the turnaround for Spurs with a composed finish from a Rodrigo Bentancur pass, sealing a 2-1 victory for the Premier League side.
Despite Coventry’s spirited performance, the late collapse handed Tottenham the win, ending their two-match losing streak and securing their place in the last 16 of the competition.
Thomas-Asante, who joined Coventry City this summer from West Brom, played the full 90 minutes and has now scored two goals in eight appearances for his new club. His impressive display against Tottenham further cements his promising start to the season.
